This page is for students pursuing or exploring a Public Health program within the Health Sciences Meta-Major. The Public Health major is non-selective and does not require a separate application process.
Choices you make during your time at Hartnell will help you complete your degree or certificate in order to immediately begin your career or transfer to complete a bachelor's degree at a four-year university.
Steps on Your Way
DISCOVER PUBLIC HEALTH

- Meet with a counselor to discuss your education plan and determine courses to be transfer- or career-ready.
- Explore , such as:
- Health service manager
- Occupational health specialist
- Community health worker
- Wellness coordinator
- Community service manager
- Emergency and disaster preparedness
- Contact tracer
- Social and behavioral fields
BECOME CAREER READY
- Join a public health club.
- Consider becoming a student member of the (APHA).
- Attend health career fairs.
- Review the core certification.
- Regularly review your education plan.
- Explore mentorship.
BECOME TRANSFER READY
If you鈥檙e planning to complete a four-year degree:
- Meet with a counselor to discuss education plan and determine courses for transfer.
- Arrange campus visits to potential universities.
- Explore transfer resources (CSU and UC).
- Review prerequisite courses.
- Explore financial aid opportunities for transfer.
- Adjust education plan to school of choice.
PREPARE TO COMPLETE
- Meet with counselor to confirm graduation.
- Submit petition to graduate.
- If continuing, submit petition to transfer.
